FirstHealth of Carolinas is a member of the NCHA High Performing Health System Collaborative. The High Performing Health System Collaborative Leadership Team was engaged to organize and host a segment of FirstHealth’s Board Retreat. Guided by key insights from the FirstHealth VBRA results – which identified the need to align and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders such as patients, local community health organizations, employees and providers – the HPHS team described FirstHealth’s perceived “readiness status” for successfully operating as a “population health management” entity. The team then facilitated breakout sessions that resulted in board members producing 3-to-5 high-level alignment strategies and performance measures the FirstHealth management team can utilize to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to organize a reliably high-performing population healthcare system.
The breakout sessions produced several new ideas – ranging from providing “micro grants” to community partners to considerations for change management strategies that aim to transition the organizational mindset from “intervention” to “prevention.”
As said by Amy Graham, FirstHealth’s VP of Strategy and Innovation: “The VBRA pinpointed our need to establish a shared vision for working collaboratively with key stakeholders to create a high-performing population healthcare system, including forming a common understanding of the objectives and possible strategies for achieving success. Using these insights, the HPHS team helped us align the Board behind the immediacy of this need, and facilitate a Board session that produced key strategic goals for us to pursue.”
