The Pneumonia Knockout Campaign successfully kicked off at NCHA’s Summer Membership Meeting July 19-21. More than 50% of the hospitals and healthcare systems in attendance signed the pledge to reduce pneumonia state mortality rate by 7.5% to the national average of 16.3% over 2 years and to reduce the pneumonia state readmissions rate by 5.4% over 2 years to target the top 25% quartile of the nation. Take the Pneumonia Knockout Pledge Here.
A cross continuum Pneumonia Advisory Group has been established that will provide guidance, expertise, and strategy around reducing pneumonia mortality and pneumonia readmission rates. The Advisory Group meets quarterly with sub-workgroups meeting monthly. Initial meetings have had more than 30 organizations in attendance including the NC Department of Health and Human Services, the NC Pharmacy Association, the NC Immunization Coalition, Alliant Quality, home health, skilled nursing facilities and faith based organizations to name a few. We’re looking for more quality advisors and clinicians to serve on the Advisory Group, let us know if you’re interested!
In addition to the Summer Meeting launch and the Advisory Group, a Pneumonia hospital sharing and learning day was held July 13 where more than 70% of NC hospitals and healthcare systems shared input and feedback to program design of this important work.
